100K gallons of water used during Hulsbosch Dairy fire

(LETTS, Ind.) – The Letts Fire Department is providing an update to the fire at Hulsbosch Dairy Farm on Friday.
The fire took place in a storage barn across the road from the dairy barns on South County Road 700 West.
None of the approximate 8,000 dairy cows were impacted or injured as a result of the fire. There were also no injuries to Hulsbosch staff members or first responders.
The storage barn contained approximately 750 tons of large square hay bales and agricultural equipment, according to farm staff.
Letts firefighters were the first to arrive and other departments who responded included Westport, Marion Township, Burney Clay, Greensburg, Hope, Hartsville and Millhousen.
“Crews remained on scene for nearly 10 hours, working alongside heavy equipment operators to spread hay and remove debris,” said Letts Fire public information officer Alexis Carson.

Caron added that an estimated 100,000 gallons of water was used during the firefighting efforts yesterday.
“Due to the large quantity of hay involved, smoke will remain visible in the area for an extended period following the fire,” she said.
Firefighters also thanked Paco’s Mexican Restaurant who supplied a large order of food on short notice for the first responders.
Hulsbosch Dairy Farm is one of the dairy farms in Indiana and has an annual impact of $9M on the local ag economy.
