(VEVAY, Ind.) – Switzerland County High School will recognize 106 graduating seniors during the school’s commencement ceremony on Saturday morning.

Seven of those seniors have already taken the oath to wear a military uniform before they have even put on their cap and gown.

The seniors who have already been sworn-in to the military are Chazz Hartley, Mason Craig, David Gill, Braydon Archer, Derek Hoskins, Briar Schnebelt and Caleb Riley.

Hartley, Hoskins and Riley have enlisted in the Navy, Craig and Gill have enlisted in the Army, Schnebelt has enlisted in the Marines and Archer will serve in the Air Force.

There are 3 more seniors that are in the process of being sworn-in with another that will attend Marine Officer Candidate School while in college.

Switzerland County Schools has put an emphasis on honoring those who serve and have served in the armed forces.

It starts at the top as Superintendent Rod Hite is a Marine veteran himself.

The school corporation is one of the only districts in Southeast Indiana where each school, elementary through high school, is designated as Purple Star by the Indiana Department of Education.

That designation is awarded to individual schools that show a significant commitment to service members, veterans and students.

Recently, the school unveiled their new “Hall of Fame, Honor and Achievement” wall.

It is a scrolling display that recognizes members of their athletic hall of fame, past valedictorians and salutatorians, as well as Switzerland County soldiers dating back to the Civil War who were either missing in action, a prisoner of war or killed in action.
