(BLOOMING GROVE, Ind.) – The Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department is recognizing a young boy for his quick actions this past summer.

8-year-old Carter Hicks had noticed something didn’t look right with a camper trailer that was parked near him.

It was smoking and beginning to catch fire.

Instead of ignoring it or assuming someone else would take care of it, Carter quickly alerted the people around him. That quick thinking helped the situation get addressed before it became much more serious.

“He was concerned about someone else’s property and wanted to make sure others knew it was in danger. That kind of awareness, responsibility, and thoughtfulness deserves recognition—especially from someone only 8-years-old,” Blooming Grove firefighters said.

Hicks was honored this past weekend with the Blooming Grove's Department Patch and Certificate of Recognition.

During the presentation, the department recognized him for his vigilance, quick thinking, and thoughtfulness.

“Carter, you showed that you don’t have to wear turnout gear or ride on a fire truck to make a difference in your community. Keep looking out for others—you did exactly the right thing, and we’re proud to recognize you,” the department stated.

The award presentation took place during Fox Run’s Annual Chili Cook-Off. The event also gave a gemerous donation to the department.
