Alleged chicken fighting operation busted in Jennings, Jackson Co.

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – An alleged chicken fighting operation was busted by authorities in Jennings and Jackson counties this week. 

The Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) conducted nearly a year-long investigation into the Red Wheel Game Farm and served several search warrants on Tuesday. 

Authorities say they found nearly 200 sick chickens during the search. 

“Sadly, these birds will have to be euthanized due to disease. We want today’s actions to send a clear message that those who engage in such barbaric and illegal activities will be held accountable in Indiana,” said IGC Law Enforcement Superintendent Brock Pilgrim.

Five people were arrested on charges that include animal fighting, conspiracy to commit professional gambling and corrupt business influence. 

Indiana Governor Mike Braun added, "Today's apprehensions will send a message that this activity has no place within Indiana's borders and we will act diligently to ensure that our gaming industry remains free from criminal activity."
