Aurora, Brookville nominated for Opportunity Zones

(AURORA, Ind.) – Two local communities will be considered for new federal tax incentives aimed at boosting private investment.
Portions of Aurora and Brookville have been nominated for designation as Opportunity Zones through the U.S. Department of Treasury.
They were nominated by Governor Mike Braun and are two of 126 census tracts in Indiana that will be considered for the 2027-2036 designation cycle.
Opportunity Zones are designed to encourage local development projects in census tracts that meet federal low-income community criteria by providing federal tax incentives for investors.
One Dearborn is applauding the Aurora area nomination citing its rural opportunities while being in close proximity to Cincinnati.
“Aurora, Indiana is a historic Ohio River city with new momentum. More than $75 million in recent and ongoing public and private investment is setting the stage for new housing, downtown redevelopment, business growth and riverfront activity,” said One Dearborn executive director Mike Perleberg.
Perleberg added that the designation will be a new tool to help attract new investment, revitalization, and historic property preservation in downtown Aurora.
