Aurora, United Way celebrates new downtown mural

(AURORA, Ind.) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for a new mural in the heart of Aurora. 

The United Way of Southeastern Indiana teamed up with the City of Aurora and Main Street Aurora to place an original mural on the side of Alejandra's Mexican Restaurant at the corner of Second and Main streets. 

They commissioned Tri-State artist Christian Dallas to design and paint the mural. 

Dallas has painted several other murals in the area such as Aurora Farm & Garden, the Gabbard Park mural and the downtown Lawrenceburg mural at 29 East High Street. 

This new colorful mural depicts people helping each other, working and playing before a backdrop that includes the city building, lush green hills, and a red barn. 

The artwork was carefully chosen to ensure it shows a broad cross-section of the community as well as reflecting volunteerism and community service.

“We feel this project is an excellent example of what our community can accomplish when various agencies come together for a common purpose. We are very proud of this contribution to the city of Aurora,” stated United Way Action Council President Jill Timon.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held last week where Mayor Patrick Schwing was joined by the United Way, Aurora library leaders and various community members.
