Batesville family creates Candy-themed Halloween display
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) — A Batesville family has a huge Halloween display that is a must visit for trick-or-treaters!
Michelle and David Lewandowski always have a big display this time of year, but came up with a unique and very colorful theme this year.
“We’ve done scary themes before and PacMan for a few years, but this year we told each other, let's step it up and make it even bigger and more fun,” David said.
From Sweet Tarts and Sweet Vines, to M&M’s and Tootsie Rolls, their yard is full of colorful Halloween candies.
The couple started this project on Father’s Day and each of the 200 pieces are handmade and painted.
The display is illuminated at night by solar lights and there are no extension cords in their lawn.
“Our goal is to make it memorable for kids and families. They can get up close to the candies and really interact with the display. That was our goal,” Michelle said.
The candy theme has been so popular that even their neighbors have gotten in the mix.
“We overflowed our lawn and our neighbors were generous and requested to put some of the pieces in their yards too. Further down the street, some kids asked if they could have stuff in their yards so we made 90 more little miniature candies,” David said.
The candy display is now featured in front of six homes in the 300 block of Columbus Avenue.
They hope to line the entire street next year!
There is one piece that holds extra significance to the family. The 11-foot Tootsie Roll displays two cats, which is in honor of two of their pets that passed away in recent years.
Halloween Night
The Lewandowski home has been a popular destination for trick-or-treaters over the past several years.
They’re hoping for an even bigger turnout this year and are very prepared for it.
They have more than 650 candies ready to handout to the children who stop by.
The family also encourages families to take photos in front of the displays as well.
Their home is located at 309 Columbus Avenue and they look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, October 31!
