Batesville senior named National Merit Scholarship semifinalist

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville High School senior has been named a semifinalist for the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. 

Viktor Aylor is one of only 16,000 high schoolers from across the country who have been named a semifinalist. Less than 1 percent of all U.S. seniors receive this honor. 

The program requires juniors to take the PSAT which approximately 1.2 million across the country did last year. The top performing students in each state are then eligble to become a semifinalist.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, the semifinalists must have a consistently high academic record, write an essay, be endorsed and recommended by a school official, and take the SAT or ACT^, earning a score that confirms the PSAT performance. 

“Achieving National Merit Semifinalist status is a true accomplishment. In the spring, we hope to be able to add his photo on the wall at BHS, joining the 27 previous National Merit Finalists from the Batesville Community School Corporation,” said BHS principal Brad Stoneking.

Viktor is the son of Mitch and Gerlinde Aylor.
