Batesville students celebrate Chinese New Year

A parade was led by an authentic dragon built by students

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Batesville students celebrated the Chinese New Year on Friday.

A parade was held through the hallways of the middle school and intermediate school and it was led by an authentic dragon.

The dragon was built by students involved in the Batesville Middle School Art Club and it was made possible through funding from the Batesville Area Arts Council.

Batesville became the first school corporation in the state to launch the Chinese Dual Language Immersion Program in 2016.

Beginning in Kindergarten, students enrolled in the program are taught Indiana standards in both English and Mandarin through their senior year. Learn more about the program here.
