(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter is mourning the loss of their beloved director.
Minde Myers passed away at the age of 54 on Sunday.
Myers began her tenure at the shelter in 2020 and her passion for animals made a life-saving difference for many that were in her care.
She led the shelter to improve their save rate from 61 percent in 2023 to 80 percent last year.
That progress resulted in the shelter receiving an award for their No-Kill efforts.
Myers also worked tirelessly to increase pet adoptions by not only offering reduced fees, but also creating bi-lingual adoption forms and offering online adoptions.
“The shelter was more than a workplace for her—it was a mission, a source of purpose, and a second home. She poured her whole heart into every animal that came through the doors,” her family said.
Shelter staff members added that there won’t be a day that goes by that they don’t think of her.
“Minde will always be a part of us and the shelter. We will feel the loss of her for quite some time. Minde was the very bones of our little family, and we just aren't quite sure how to continue life without her,” the shelter stated.
A Celebration of Life for Minde Myers will be held at Links Bar in Greensburg at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 19.
