Boy gets first-ever deer, another one on Saturday

(LAUREL, Ind.) – A local boy had an experience in the woods this past weekend that he will not forget anytime soon!

11-year-old Hunter Ward and his dad went hunting in Franklin County on Saturday morning. 

Hunter had never gotten a deer before and was hoping this Youth Season would bring a better result. 

He and his dad were in the tree stand when they noticed a doe running in front of them. 

“My dad said sit still for a second and get ready,” Hunter recalled. 

Hunter took a deep breath and fired his gun and hit the deer that was about 30 yards away. 

His good luck didn’t stop as there happened to be another doe that was behind a tree. 

Hunter was able to get a look at it and fired another shot, striking the second deer. 

It was a memorable moment that Hunter will certainly remember for a lifetime. 

“I don’t think I could find the words to describe it, it was so nice and I loved it. I also didn’t expect to be interviewed about it either,” he said. 

Hunter attends North Decatur Elementary and says his favorite class is Math. His next goal is to get a buck!
