(BRIGHT, Ind.) – Five Bright Elementary students have accomplished something that not many other third graders do.
Easton Bischoff, Joshua Kirk, Asher Sortwell, Harper Walters and Paxton Williams all took part in a project where they authored an original book!
The students were inspired by ‘The Book With No Pictures’ which was written by actor B.J. Novak, who is best known for his role in The Office.
The popular children’s book obligates the reader to read every word on the page, no matter how ridiculous it may be.
The Bright students put their own spin on the publication by writing ‘A Book with Just Words…No Pictures.’
They were assisted by teacher Kim Lloyd and school volunteer Pam Leiker who provided guidance throughout the project.
“Their creation evolved into a different kind of fun. The group decided the book was so good that they asked a talented high school student to assist and make their hard work look professional,” Lloyd said.
High schooler Keaton Piche assisted the kids by making the book even better by serving as the illustrator.
The third graders recently unveiled their book to classmates and Piche led a drawing activity while discussing the creative process.
As part of the learning experience, the students will mail a copy of their book to Novak’s publicity office in New York.
They will also apply for a copyright while exploring possible publication options to learn more about the full writing process.
The book is not currently available for purchase. Here are some photos from their book unveiling:
