Brookville students honor Dolly's love of reading

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – Franklin County students paid tribute to country music star Dolly Parton on Friday. 

Elementary and middle school students were encouraged to dress up to honor Parton for her global philanthropy and literacy efforts on ‘9 To 5 Day.’ 

Students wore cowboy hats and boots and the school even played Parton’s famous ‘9 To 5’ song. 

“This was an opportunity to not only honor the late country singer, but to also recognize her literacy efforts and to encourage students to continue reading whenever they get the chance,” said Brookville Elementary Principal Matt Piening. 

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library was launched in 1995 and has provided more than 330 million free books to children worldwide. Click here to see how the program has benefitted local kids.
