Children's book by Franklin Co. grad brings nature to young reader s

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – A local college student is using her artistic talent and creativity to teach children about nature. 

20-year-old Hannah George is a Franklin County graduate who came up with the idea of writing and illustrating a children’s book. 

She currently attends IU East and has used her free time over the past year to bring the book to reality. 

George didn’t have to look far for inspiration, as she based it on a stuffed animal she had as a child. 

The book is called ‘Frogbert’s Spring’ and it’s about a frog waking up from hibernation and getting into the spring-cleaning spirit. 

One person who read the book described it as a pleasant surprise that shows an exuberance for life, nature and friends. 

“The illustrations were whimsical and fun. The story has the children outside exploring his world for trinkets of their own,” the Amazon review steed. 

One unique aspect about the book is that Hannah also included coloring pages for kids to complete on their own. 

This is Hannah’s first published book and it likely won’t be her last. She credits her mom, who is a graphic designer, for assisting with the formatting and getting it published. 

She is hoping to write and illustrate a series of “Frogbert” books for each season of the year. 

“I would love to show young readers what a frog does in the summer, or even the winter, and make it enjoyable for kids to learn about nature,” George said. 

Hannah also dreams of eventually using the concept of the book to host children’s workshops, crafts and other nature-centered activities. 

George also works part-time at Shear Designs Beauty Salon where she recently painted a 16-foot canoe that is on display ahead of Brookville's 250th celebration
