Cyclists coming through area during Race Across America

Part of a 3,000-mile cross-country race

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The annual Race Across America is making its way through Southeast Indiana.
Cyclists from around the world are on a 3,00-mile journey that began in Oceanside, California and will end in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The bicycles are typically accompanied by a van following closely behind as they travel on busy roads such as State Road 46 and also through rural areas like St. Mary’s Road in Franklin County.
Last year, a Batesville resident was part of Race Across America.
Thomas Essick is a Batesville assistant cross country coach, middle school track coach and works at Hillenbrand.
He participated in the nationwide race and there was a big crowd that cheered him on as he passed Batesville High School.
