DCCF pledges $1M for new pool in Greensburg

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Decatur County Community Foundation is hoping to make a major splash in the community. 

The organization is now pledging at least $1 million toward the construction of a new community pool. 

DCCF made the commitment following their November board meeting as they recognize the need for a modern aquatic facility in Decatur County.

It comes after the historic Allen Memorial Pool closed in 2023 after nearly 70 years due to deteriorating conditions.

“Our community needs a pool, it has been my goal to do everything I can to bring one back. I believe it is imperative for physical and mental health, as well as promoting public safety by giving more kids the opportunity for swimming lessons,” said Decatur County Commissioner Gabe Nobbe. 

The total estimated cost to build a new pool is $4 million and plans for the new facility are expected to be unveiled next month. 

DCCF Executive Director Tami Wenning encouraged community participation in helping bring the project to completion. 

“Businesses or individuals interested in seeing this become a reality are encouraged to reach out to us to see if any matching dollars might be available toward the construction of the pool,” Wenning said. 

She noted that the Board is currently discussing potential matching opportunities, and that naming opportunities may be available for significant contributions.

Parks Department Director Chris Noblitt added, “This project is about more than a pool. This is an investment in the quality of life for our entire community and another major step forward in providing quality recreation opportunities for everyone!"
