DCMH nurse has car stolen at work, police quickly locate

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Decatur County Memorial Hospital nurse got quite the shock early Monday morning. 

Patricia Buhrow works in Labor and Delivery and had clocked out after an overnight shift at 7 a.m. this morning. 

She was walking in the parking lot when she realized that the car had disappeared. 

“It is actually my husband's vehicle and I called him and said you won’t believe this, but your car has been stolen,” Buhrow recalled. 

She contacted the Greensburg Police Department who responded immediately and launched an investigation. 

Surveillance images showed that a suspect had been walking around the parking lot around 3 a.m. and attempting to get into vehicles. 

“He entered my car and a few minutes later drove off,” she said. 

Greensburg Police utilized automated license plate readers and discovered that the car had been in the Indianapolis area around 4:30 a.m. 

By 6 a.m., license plate readers indicated the car was back in Greensburg and police located it an apartment complex. 

The police department was able to return the vehicle to Buhrow just a few hours after she got off work this morning. 

“The suspect had thrown my purse in the backseat and my wallet is missing, but otherwise the car was returned with minimal damage,” she told The 812. 

A suspect was not initially located and it is unclear if that person has been identified.

Buhrow is praising the police officers for their quick actions and professionalism during the case. 

“I am very impressed with the Greensburg Police Department as they showed up at the hospital within minutes, conducted a really thorough investigation and within minutes had found the car’s location through license plate readers,” she said.

The DCMH nurse says she is grateful to have the vehicle returned and says this incident has certainly reminded her to be more alert and vigilant.
