Dearborn Co. WWII veteran has 100-and-a 1/2 birthday party

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A special event was held for one of the last living World War II veterans in Dearborn County today.
George Klopp turned 100-years-old on April 13 and friends and family recently came up with a unique idea.
They wanted to celebrate his 100-and-a-half birthday as well!
Vietnam veteran PG Gentrup came up with the idea and said its similar to how little kids say things such as, “I’m 3-and-a-half years old.”
“I even had to write it out for the person who designed the birthday cake because they’ve never seen anything like that before,” Gentrup recalled.

The celebration was held at the Lawrenceburg American Legion and many people stopped by to wish George a special half-birthday.
Some officials who were there included Congresswoman Erin Houchin, Aurora Mayor Patrick Schwing and Greendale Mayor Vince Karsteter.
Klopp is a Navy veteran who served nearly two years in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Navy Good Conduct Medal.
He worked for Anchor Glass for many years and has also been a longtime Cincinnati Bengals season ticket holder. You can watch his 100th birthday celebration by clicking this link.
The only other WWII veteran in Dearborn County that is still living is 99-year-old JC Lewis.
