Decatur Co. EMA to host storm spotter training class

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Decatur County EMA will host a free Storm Spotter Training Class this month.

It will take place at the EMA Training Room from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11.

Organizers say there is no registration required and kids and high schoolers are also welcome to attend.

“I know high school and junior high aged kids have had no issues with it in the past. Also, it's a very popular subject in the Amateur Radio community as well,” said Decatur County EMA Director Michael Snyder.

The goal of the class is to train spotters who can identify severe weather which can help officials issue warnings and save lives.

“It is difficult to actually get the National Weather Service to come down and teach the class in person due to their limited out of the office schedules. This could also be a good class for our industry partners that work in and around planning for severe weather conditions in the occupation,” Snyder added.

The Decatur County EMA Training Room is located at 315 South Ireland Street and attendees are asked to enter through Door #14.
