(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Decatur County group has created a petition opposing a proposed AI Data Center project.
The Coalition to Protect Decatur County Against AI Data Center has garnered more than 970 signatures since the petition was launched.
“We were not properly informed of the possibility of this Hyperscale data center coming to our community. There has been zero transparency to the citizens of Decatur County regarding the risks of this being built in our community,” the petition stated.
The group is voicing concerns over the amount of water and energy that would be required to operate the hyperscale data center.
"Our utility bills are already outrageous and they will only continue to increase with the amount of energy and water this data center will utilize," according to the petition.
The Coalition has scheduled a meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday to discuss next steps, answer questions and bring more members into the cause.
