Scammer claims residents are in contempt of court

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a phone scam.
Scammers are trying to spoof citizens by using the phone number of the sheriff’s department and claiming that they are held in contempt of court for missing jury duty.
The agency confirmed this is a scam as they will never ask for personal or sensitive information over the phone.
“If a conversation seems suspicious, always protect yourself by not giving out your personal information,” the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department said.
Please contact the department at (812) 663-8125 if you have any questions or if you receive a similar phone call.
