Dedication ceremony for Laurel veterans memorial on June 20

(LAUREL, Ind.) – A dedication ceremony will be held for a new veterans memorial in Laurel. 

Several years ago Laurel resident Shirlie Mauzy said she wanted to see a local monument dedicated to local veterans. 

That vision began to become reality last year when some volunteers started working on the project. 

“Through donations, grants and volunteers we were able to purchase the flags, poles and monuments,” organizers said. 

They are currently selling veteran pavers to raise funds for the sidewalk leading to the memorial, landscaping and trees. 

The dedication ceremony will be held at Conwell Cemetery at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.
