Dillsboro family without groceries after SNAP benefits stolen

Reports of theft have happened across the country

(DILLSBORO, Ind.) – A Dillsboro mom had to abandon her cart full of groceries after discovering her SNAP benefits had been stolen. 

Adrianna Graham is a mother of three kids and is pregnant. The family has had to rely on the benefits due to unexpected health issues. 

Last month, she was at an Osgood grocery store when she swiped her card, however it was not accepted.

She discovered that someone from Massachusetts stole the entire amount just 15 minutes prior.

Graham then went to the Indiana State Police where she filed a report. 

“The Indiana State Police told me that they thought the SNAP office could stop the transaction, but nobody from the SNAP office was willing to help. They couldn’t even give the Indiana State Police a phone number to the fraud department of EBT,” she said. 

The alleged theft has left the family in a difficult situation over the past few weeks. 

“I am already embarrassed to use food stamps let alone. But now I have to try and figure out diapers, wipes, bills and food,” she said.

Graham is not the only person to have had benefits stolen as here is a recent story from Augusta, Georgia. 

“I want everyone to know that anything can happen and it takes one bad thing to happen to be out on your luck and be in a situation where you need food stamps or assistance,” Graham told The 812. 

“I also want everyone to know that even if your card is locked they can be stolen and nobody will do anything about it. Please be considerate and polite when you see people asking for help," she added.
