(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A domestic violence survivor is using her creativity with the hope of spreading awareness.
Heather Freeman had serious injuries after she was attacked by her husband last June. The man was later convicted and sentenced to prison.
She suffered a concussion and other facial injuries, including further damage to her left eye.
“I was already blind in my left eye due to a car wreck when I was 8. As a direct result of the attack, I will be losing that eye entirely and will have to have a prosthetic left eye,” she said.
She has also had two surgeries on her right eye as well, as a result of the incident.
Although it’s been almost a year, the lingering effects of the attack continue to burden her. She's had to apply for disability and is struggling to find permanent housing.
“I really want to raise awareness about domestic violence and strangulation. People don’t talk about the aftermath. Too many people didn’t get to have a voice, and I almost didn’t either,” Heather said.

She added,” But I survived and I’m still here as a voice for myself and for the silent.”
Heather has designed custom t-shirts that are being sold at Gypsy Soul in Batesville.
The shirts are $25 with all proceeds going to her. Gypsy Soul is located 16 East George Street.
She has also launched a Go Fund Me which you can view by clicking here.
