(MORRIS, Ind.) — An East Central sophomore has an incredible talent and passion that he utilizes every October.

Chase Schutte loves to create haunted experiences and he has one of the more scarier ones you’ll find anywhere in the Tri-State.

His passion stems back to his childhood when his grandmother would take him through haunted houses.

“She really enjoyed the haunted stuff and getting scared, and I’d be there crying and she’d grab me and take me through,” Schutte explained.

His grandma passed away a few years ago and Chase honors her by creating these experiences.

He was just 12-years-old when he created the first haunted experience at his family’s home in 2023.

The 15-year-old has expanded it immensely over the years and estimates that he has spent $6,000 on it this year.

It’s called ‘The Shed’ and features all types of scares, frights, lights and electronics through a wooded trail.

“This is scarier than what someone might expect at a home haunt, but we do still offer the non-scare experience if requested,” he said.

Schutte has been busy this year but is getting some help from East Central junior Jensen Isadore.

“I love decorating and have decorated some creepy campouts before, but now I’m able to help Chase and make it a lot bigger,” Isadore said.

Those two have been working for about a month to get the haunted experience ready in-time for its October 23 opening.

What's the cost? It is a free-will donation! The Shed is located at 6047 East County Road 1300 North in Sunman.

Here is when The Shed haunted trail will be open:

  • Friday, October 23  (8-10 p.m.)

  • Saturday, October 24 (8-10 p.m.)

  • Sunday, October 25 (8-10 p.m.)

  • Friday, October 30 (8-10 p.m.)

  • Saturday, October 31 (8-10 p.m.)
