EC grad's softball journey takes her to Marshall University

Has played at three different colleges

(HUNTINGTON, W.V.) – An East Central grad has had a unique softball journey after high school.

Lindsay Henson left her mark on the Lady Trojans softball program where she broke the school’s career and single-season home run record. She was a 4-time conference MVP and also a 4-time All-County Player of the Year.

She recently caught up with East Central photographer Sandy Mahoney for an edition of “On The Sidelines With Sandy.”

Lindsay’s collegiate softball career began at a small community college in Ellisville, Mississippi.

The pitcher went 8-0 and pitched nearly 50 innings for Jones College. She was named a Second Team-All American.

Henson decided to transfer from Jones College and landed at Drury University in Missouri.

Her career continued to blossom at Drury where she compiled a 1.23 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 2023.

“I learned some things there and definitely got some pitching time, and realized my [softball career] wasn’t over so I entered the transfer portal,” Henson said.

While in the transfer portal, Henson got a call from the Marshall University softball coach who asked if she wanted to be a member of the Thundering Herd.

She knew Marshall University was the perfect fit after visiting campus and meeting with coaches and former players.

Henson has pitched in three games so far this season against Missouri, Oklahoma and Loyola.

She is in her senior year and will graduate in the spring, however, Lindsay is hoping the  NCAA grants her one more year of eligibility.

As for her future plans she said, “I definitely want to get into real estate after school, but right now my goal is to figure out my softball plans before anything else.”

Mahoney responded by, “Would you consider professional softball?”

“I don’t know yet, I am going to take it one day at a time," Henson said.
