(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A former trustee in Decatur County has been charged with four felonies.
Christian Rust served as the Washington Township Trustee from 2019 until 2022.
Following his time in office, the Indiana State Board of Accounts (SBOA) conducted a special investigation and released findings that alleged Rust was noncompliant with state law and guidelines.
SBOA ordered Rust to repay approximately $89,300 in connection to unsupported medical expense reimbursements, employer payroll taxes, unsupported cell phone reimbursements, and special investigation costs.
That same investigation also ordered former township clerk Charity Wilder to repay approximately $1,100. Wilder has not been criminally charged.
Rust was charged with Theft (Level 6 Felony) as well as three counts of Official Misconduct (Level 6 Felony) on Tuesday, July 1.
