Farmer rescued from grain bin in Switzerland Co.

(EAST ENTERPRISE, Ind.) – A person was rescued after getting stuck in a grain bin in East Enterprise.

It happened around 7 p.m. Thursday at a home on Allensville Road.

East Enterprise, Moorefield and Jeff Craig firefighters responded along with Switzerland County Emergency Response.

First responders assisted some local farmers and relatives of the person as the rescue lasted close to two hours.

The person was freed using a grain bin rescue system and was able to climb out of the bin under his own power.

“If you have not seen this system before, the yellow pieces are a tube that is placed around the person and then the corn is removed from inside the tube. The blue pieces you see in the corn is to help distribute the weight of the rescuers so they do not sink into the corn,” stated the East Enterprise Fire Department.
