(MOOREFIELD, Ind.) – Moorefield firefighters got some assistance from local farmers during a hay fire near Moorefield on Saturday.
A trailer hauling hay caught fire in the area of State Road 129 near Caledonia Road.
“The driver was able to disconnect the trailer from the truck before the fire spread. With a quick response we were able to knock the major fire down before the trailer was ruined,” Moorefield firefighter Nate Smith said.
Some farmers showed up to remove the bales from the trailer and spread them out, which helped crews extinguish the rest of the fire.
The Moorefield department was assisted by Jeff-Craig firefighters, Switzerland County EMA, the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office and dispatchers.
