(CONNERSVILLE, Ind.) – The Fayette County Animal Shelter has confirmed an outbreak of the Feline Panleukopenia “Parvo” virus at its facility.

Feline Panleukopenia is also known as feline distemper and is a life-threatening, highly contagious viral disease to other cats.

The shelter was forced to euthanize 14 cats as a result of the outbreak.

“This was an incredibly difficult situation, and we are saddened by the loss of these animals. The shelter has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to help prevent further spread of the virus and protect cats moving forward,” the Fayette County Animal Shelter stated.

To ensure the well-being of other animals in the facility, the shelter is not accepting any new cats or kittens until at least Wednesday, November 4.
