(CONNERSVILLE, Ind.) – A recent candidate forum in Fayette County has garnered national attention.

Jamie West is a democrat candidate for District 4 County Council and was interviewed by Connersville TV3.

The interview has sparked nationwide coverage from outlets including USA Today, Fox News, Libs of Tik Tok and TMZ.

West has not withdrawn from the county council race as of Wednesday afternoon. Here’s the backstory:

During the interview, West said she had previously spoken with Connersville Fire Chief Scott Jones about Senate Bill 1.

She claimed Jones told her, “If we don’t do something different, we will lose one of our firehouses.”

West said she interpreted that to mean the fire chief was advocating for more Democrats to be elected.

Her statement on TV3 prompted a response from the fire chief.

“There will not be any fire station closures in Connersville [and] I have no affiliation with the democrat party or any of its candidates,” Jones posted on Facebook.

He added that he is working with state legislators to find out what effects Senate Bill 1 will have on Fayette County.

Later in the interview, West was asked what decision she would make that may be unpopular with some voters but would be in the best interest of the county.

Her response was, “Firing all the Republicans. I don’t even talk to them. I don’t even like them.”

She also expressed her desire to lower taxes and to not allow data centers in the county. West said she would demand data centers to pay every resident $10,000.

At the end of the interview she was asked to share a final message to voters. Her response:

“We have guns too,” she said.
