Firefighters: Check your exterior porch lights

(FRIENDSHIP, Ind.) – Residents are being reminded to check their porch lights following a small fire in Friendship. 

Volunteer firefighters responded to a home on East Olean Road around 8 p.m. Wednesday. 

“The homeowner seeing the blaze early and improvising a suppression tool (a mop) prevented a serious situation,” stated Friendship firefighters. 

Firefighters made sure the fire was fully extinguished, however there was some damage to the siding and deck. 

It appears the fire was caused by a bird's nest that was in a porch light. 

The Friendship Fire Department says this incident is a good reminder for homeowners to check your exterior lights.
