(AURORA, Ind.) – A 77-year-old man is hospitalized after being rescued during a fire in Aurora on Monday night.
Crews respond to a report of a structure fire around 8 p.m. at a duplex in the 100 block of Lincoln Street.
The victim had collapsed inside the home and was blocking the entrance, Aurora Fire Chief Jeff Lane said.
An Aurora Police Officer and EMT’s were able to get inside the home and pull the man to safety.
He was flown to the University of Cincinnati for burns and smoke inhalation. His current status is not known.
Firefighters determined the blaze was occurring in the basement apartment and they were able to extinguish the fire.
The fire is currently under investigation and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is expected to visit the scene on Tuesday.
Six fire departments responded including Aurora, Lawrenceburg, Greendale, Hogan, Rising Sun and Manchester.
Other agencies involved included Aurora EMS, Lawrenceburg EMS and the Dearborn County Communications Center.
“I'd like to thank the Aurora Police officer and the Aurora EMS crew for their heroic action in pulling the 77-year-old victim to safety,” Chief Lane said.
