Home near Letts destroyed by fire Thursday night

Five departments responded

UPDATE (10:50AM FRIDAY)


(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Decatur County home was destroyed by a fire on Thursday night. 


Around 8 p.m., Letts and Westport firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 5000 block of South County 60SW near Gaynorsville.


Firefighters could see the fire from more than a mile away when they were responding. 


They immediately called for additional departments as Greensburg, Burney-Clay, and Millhousen responded. 


The home was fully engulfed when crews arrived and firefighting efforts were hampered due to snow and ice conditions.


The home has been deemed as a total loss, the Letts Fire Department confirmed. 


Firefighters also received assistance from Decatur County EMS, Decatur County HIghway, Decatur County REMC and CenterPoint Energy. 


Hulsbosch Dairy Farm also assisted by providing a tractor to pull out an apparatus that had become stuck.

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Multiple fire departments are responding to a structure fire in the Letts area on Thursday night. 


The incident is in the 5000 block of County Road 60SW and the structure was reportedly fully engulphed while nobody was inside the home around 8:10 p.m.


Letts and Westport Fire Departments have requested mutual aid from Millhousen, Greensburg and Burney.
