Funds needed to help toddler walk in the future

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Thea Humpfrey enjoys many of the same things that other toddlers her age does.
The 1-year-old loves Elmo, Sesame Street, farm animals, and will be dressed up as the Cookie Monster for Halloween.
However, Thea has a very rare genetic condition that prevents her from fully being herself.
She was born with Larsen’s Syndrome which is a rare disorder that affects the bones in the body.
The condition caused Thea to be born with dislocations in both knees, clubbed feet, tethered spinal cord, laryngomalacia and facial characteristics.
“Neither her dad or I have the gene for Larsen's, it was a mutation that happened before ten weeks gestation,” said her mom, Tiffany Humpfrey.
Currently, she’s unable to crawl and faces the real possibility that she will never be able to walk in the future.
The ability to walk will have to come through a life-changing surgery that her family is desperately hoping to raise funds for.
“A bilateral knee surgery seems kind of simple, almost like a cosmetic procedure but to Thea it’s between her walking or not walking… as her parents, it’s serious to us,” said her mom, Tiffany.
The family has been approved for surgery with a nationally-known orthopedic surgeon in Florida that specializes in Larsen’s Syndrome.

However, their insurance is not in network and all medial appointments must be paid in full, prior to the appointment.
Through a benefit earlier this fall and a Go Fund Me page, they have raised about $11,000.
They still need approximately $25,000 to make the surgery a reality.
“We understand whole heartedly how big of an ask this is. Our friends and family have already done so much for us & Thea. We need this to reach a much bigger audience,” Tiffany said.
The surgery could occur as early as January if they are able to raise the funds.
