(ST. LEON, Ind.) – Some East Central students are learning how to care for plant life.
The Sunman-Dearborn Educators Association recently provided a grant to the school’s Applied Adult Responsibilities Class and my Applied Life Science Class.
The program received supplies for students in Kelly Brown’s class to grow and care for plants.
“We had been planning since last year and they loved getting to be part of the entire process: from planning the area, ordering supplies on a budget, deciding what we would grow, putting the stands together, organizing the area, planting, using a water meter to determine if our plants needed water and how much, working together to clean up, and so much more,” Brown said.
“Many of my students have become independent in caring for their plants, while others still need reminders. At Winter Break I allowed them to take their succulents home to be cared for so that we could make room for growing their hyacinths,” she added.
The class is now planning their next plant they want to grow.
