Greensburg girl returns home after major surgery

The family shared this video of Myla leaving Boston after being there for 29 days.

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg girl has returned home sooner than expected after a life-changing surgery.

9-year-old Myla Speer has a rare neurological condition known as Sturge-Weber Syndrome which has caused her to have seizures and stroke-like episodes.

She and her family traveled to Boston last month for a serious brain surgery.

Doctors believe this procedure could finally free Myla from those struggles — giving her the chance to live a life filled with joy, discovery, and peace,” the family said at the time.

Myla was expected to remain in Boston for several months but due to her progress, she returned back home on Saturday.

“Our medical team has been incredible, but she is the reason we’re ahead of schedule and gearing up to head home sooner than expected,” her mom said earlier this week.

Despite their own battle, the Speer family has raised more than $130,000 for the Sturge-Weber Syndrome Foundation over the past few years.
