(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Decatur County mom continued her tradition of bringing Christmas joy to nursing home patients on Saturday.
Jamie Hilton lost all of her grandparents in a short time span a few years ago.
She always enjoyed spending Christmas at their homes and felt a void during the holidays after they had passed away.
It inspired Hilton to create ‘Adopt A Grandparent’ as a way to bring gifts to nursing home residents.
“My grandpa on my dad's side lived in the Willows and passed away there. The first year I did this I had just planned on covering all the residents in that facility. However, after posting it on Facebook I got so much positive feedback that I was able to cover a couple different homes that year and have continued the tradition,” Hilton said.
Her initiative is now in its fourth year and she brought gifts to 251 nursing home residents in the county.
“Every resident at Morning Breeze, The Willows, Hickory Creek and Arbor Grove Village received gifts and we also made a few extra donations to Aspen Place as well,” she said.
The gifts are made possible through the donations that are given to Hilton from the community.
“Also a big thank you to North Decatur High School, St Mary's School, and Lu Ann Cain and her daycare children who made handmade cards. The residents loved them,” Hilton added.
Hilton along with her family members, Clare Tham and The Owen's family, stopped by each nursing home to deliver the gifts on Saturday.
