(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg native is turning her family’s difficult experiences into stories that help children feel seen, understood and hopeful.

Sheena LaFary and her husband, Justin, had their lives turned upside down when Justin was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2024. The family later relocated to the Cincinnati area, where Justin could remain closer to his medical care.

“Through it all, our son, Zavier, taught me the beauty of seeing the world differently. Our three dogs—Bentley, Oreo, and Navy—have been our daily reminders that love shows up in the most loyal ways,” Sheena said.

Drawing on her background in education and her love of storytelling, Sheena founded The Wildflower Literary Co., an independent publishing brand. Her children’s books center on courage, faith, family, inclusion and hope.

One of those books is The Brave Heart That Never Gave Up — A Story About Courage, Faith, Family, and Hope, which was inspired by her husband’s brain tumor diagnosis and treatment.

“Surrounded by the love of his family and strengthened by his faith, Dad begins to discover what it really means to be brave. Courage isn’t having all the answers. It isn’t pretending everything is okay. And it certainly doesn’t mean never crying or never feeling afraid,” the book states.

Her other children’s books include ‘I Have Lots to Say — A Story About Autism, Communication, and Friendship’ and ‘Finding Navy — The Story of the Puppy Who Found Her Way Home.’

Together, the books reflect LaFary’s focus on inclusive communication, connection and resilience—and helping children recognize that their own stories matter.

LaFary also writes adult fiction. The Reinwald Chronicles is a planned seven-book fantasy-romance series that explores love, identity and the idea that choosing another person should never mean surrendering yourself.

The first book, The Reinwald Crown, has been published, while the second novel, The Reinwald Shadow, has been completed but not yet released.

Through The Wildflower Literary Co., LaFary is building an independent publishing brand rooted in heartfelt, accessible storytelling for children and adults.

Sheena is focused on writing with heart, honesty and a lot of Hoosier soul, hoping her stories help others feel seen, understood and never alone.
