Hopes to help others through proper nutrition

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg senior is planning a career path in honor of her late grandfather.
Abigail Follmer hopes to become a dietician and will be studying the field at Ball State this fall.
Her passion for dietetics comes from the loss of her grandfather.
“He had Type-2 Diabetes and it really weakened his immune system and so when COVID-19 came around, he passed away after he got it,” Follmer said.
Follmer added, “He was my biggest inspiration to take this career path.”
She is one of several students that are enrolled through the Culinary Arts program at Greensburg Community High School.
Abigail says the program has helped her gain a deeper understanding of nutrition and culinary skills.
“My teacher, Mrs. Ahlbrand, works to branch us out with not only home-style cooking but also catering,” she said. “Also, working in the kitchen with my classmates has helped build teamwork and empathetic skills,” she said.
Follmer has already earned her ServSafe Manager certification because of the program.
