(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Sub-zero temperatures will be moving into the area this weekend which has prompted the opening of a Warming Center in Greensburg.
The Warming Center will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday and operate continuously through Monday afternoon.
It is located at the Decatur County Health Department at 315 South Ireland Street. Attendees can access the center through Door 14.
“We encourage anyone without adequate heat or safe shelter to utilize this resource,” said the Decatur County Health Department. “Ensuring that all community members have a warm place to stay during severe weather is a priority.”
The Warming Center is seeking both volunteers and food donations. They plan to make breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.
Here are the items they are accepting:
Beverages: Ground coffee (for a warm cup!), 12-cup flat-bottom coffee filters, hot chocolate packets, juice, and powdered drink mixes.
Paper Goods: Disposable hot drink cups (12–20 oz), cold cups (12–20 oz), and full table-service plates/utensils.
Cleaning Supplies: Dish soap, disinfecting wipes, paper towels, dish sponges, and bathroom/shower cleaning supplies.
Snacks: Fresh fruit, Pop-Tarts, granola bars, individually wrapped snacks, cheese sticks, single-serve yogurts, fruit cups, and candy (including sugar-free options).
Food Storage: Sandwich, quart, and gallon-sized storage bags, plus plastic food storage containers for leftovers.
