(CINCINNATI) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office identified their fallen deputy on Sunday evening.

Larry Henderson was a 33-year veteran of the department who trained hundreds of deputies during his tenure.

On Friday, he was working a special detail during graduation ceremonies at the University of Cincinnati when he was fatally struck by a car.

Police say the driver was 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr. and he was arrested for Aggravated Murder.

Just one day before, Hinton’s 18-year-old son was shot and killed by Cincinnati Police.

Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey says Henderson had a talent for teaching and presentation.

“He developed an expertise and became an excellent trainer. Subsequently, he trained divisions of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office that included hundreds of deputy sheriffs. His ability to relate to and touch officers’ lives was extraordinary,” McGuffey said.

During his career, Henderson was involved in specialized units including Academy Instructor, Drive Team member, SWAT, Bomb Unit and FBI Task Force Officer.

“We want to thank our fellow law enforcement officers, community members, family, friends, and everyone who has offered condolences and support during this incredibly difficult time,” she added.

Memorial services for Henderson have not been announced as of Sunday night.
