(VEVAY, Ind.) – A home was a total loss after a fire in Switzerland County early Sunday morning.
The fire occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Main Cross Street in Vevay.
Crews from the Jeff-Craig, East Enterprise and Moorefield fire departments all responded to the scene.
The homeowners were able to make it out of the house, however, one person was taken to a hospital with possible smoke inhalation, a witness said.
The home was deemed a total loss and some nearby homes also sustained small damage.
Crews also experienced some issues on a firetruck as well as a broken water main. However, their response helped limit the damage on the other structures.
The Switzerland County EMA was also on scene who contacted the Red Cross to help the family.
Other agencies that assisted included Vevay Utilities, Switzerland County Gas Company, Duke Energy, the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department and Vevay Police.
