Indiana Governor suspends gas tax for 30 days

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana Governor Mike Braun has issued a 30-day suspension on the gas tax.

The emergency declaration suspends the 7% usage tax on fuel, followed by review.

“I am declaring a gas tax holiday to give Hoosiers relief from the pain at the pump from high gas prices. Affordability is my top priority,” Governor Mike Braun said.

Governor Braun is also calling on gasoline retailers to deliver the gas tax relief directly to consumers, and noted that the state will be “patrolling the pumps” — monitoring prices to ensure that savings are delivered to Hoosiers at the pump.

State Senator Randy Maxwell (R-District 43) says he stands with the governor on the move.

"After hearing from numerous constituents about the pain they are feeling at the pump, I called the governor's office last week requesting he suspend the gas tax. I am glad to join with Sen. Holdman and many other Republican Senators on this effort, as our state is in a strong enough financial position to be able to give some money back to hard-working Hoosier taxpayers.
