(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a public hearing regarding State Road 46 in Batesville.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Batesville High School beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5.
It is in regard to “roadway right-sizing” and the hearing will offer the public an opportunity to comment on preliminary design plans on State Road 46. The portion of road impacted is from approximately Mitchell Avenue to Merkel Road.
INDOT says their preferred alternative will reduce the number of travel lanes from four to two and convert the existing median to a two-way center turn lane.
Officials said the proposed project is “needed” due to the high number of crashes occurring in the area.
“Between 2021 and 2023, between Bedel Boulevard and Fisherman Road, there were three fatal or incapacitating injury crashes, 14 non-incapacitating/possible injury crashes, and 30 property damage crashes,” the state agency said.
Prior to the hearing, written comments can be submitted by email to amikrut@indot.in.gov or by mail at:
