ISP investigating inmate death at Jackson County Jail

(SEYMOUR, Ind.) – The Indiana State Police are investigating a death at the Jackson County Jail.

47-year-old Richard Cox, of Crothersville, was arrested on July 22 and was found responsive in a jail cell on July 25.

First responders performed life-saving measures and Cox was flown to a hospital but was pronounced dead on July 29.

Investigators say Cox was alone in the jail cell when he became unresponsive.

“There is no indication that foul play on the part of any other inmates or jail staff occurred prior to him going unresponsive,” said ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles.

The investigation remains ongoing.
