(BRIGHT, Ind.) – Bright Fire & EMS made a very special delivery on Friday night!
The department responded to a call of a woman in labor who was parked along North Dearborn Road.
The pregnant woman, Sarah, and her sister, Stephanie, were attempting to make it to the hospital, however with contractions being just two minutes apart, decided to park the vehicle in a driveway and call for help.
An ambulance with Bright Medic Landen Brent and EMT's Francesca Rapuano and Colton Stath arrived moments later.
Due to the distance from a birthing center, the only option was to deliver the baby in the parked ambulance as it would be unsafe to do so if it was moving.
The three first responders successfully delivered the baby in healthy condition before taking mom and baby to a Cincinnati hospital.
“There are people who work an entire EMS career and never deliver a baby but we train and prepare for anything as you never know what might happen,” Bright Fire Chief Kendall Eberhart said.
Eberhart added, “The only time I recall this happening at Bright was four years ago in Hidden Valley.”
Sarah and Brian are the parents and they named the baby Dylan! We're told mom and Dylan are doing great!
