Kentucky family continues road side tradition in Milan

(MILAN, Ind.) – A Kentucky family is continuing their long tradition of selling fresh peaches in Milan this weekend.

The Johnson family is from Breathitt County, Kentucky and each year they purchase fresh peaches from South Carolina. 

They haul the peaches in a pickup truck to Indiana and set up their road stand stand at the intersection of State Road 101 and County Road 600 North. 

This tradition has been taking place for more than 50 years and it’s something the family looks forward to every summer. 

“It really means a lot to me that people like what we bring. I appreciate every customer that we have and we try to bring the best peaches we can find at the best prices,” Mike Johnson said. 

They are dedicated to this annual trip. Their community in Eastern Kentucky was severely impacted by deadly flooding in July 2022 and 11 people were killed. 

Despite the flooding, the Johnson family still made their annual trek to Milan.

They arrived on Friday morning and are expecting to remain in the area throughout the weekend.
