(LAUREL, Ind.) – People from all over the country and world have spent the past few days in Franklin County.
The annual Trikefest attracts three-wheeler enthusiasts to Haspin Acres in Laurel every summer.
It’s the largest festival of its kind as it celebrates the three-wheelers that stopped being produced due to safety concerns in the 1980’s.
Trikefest is celebrating its 25th annual festival this week and it's origins began through the internet.
Long before social media and Facebook Marketplace, a group of trike enthusiasts communicated through a website about parts and how to fix things.
“After so many years of talking online they wanted to meet and they called all over the country for a place that would have three-wheelers, and Haspin Acres said they would try it,” said Longbranch Tavern owner Bev Keller.
Nowadays, attendees travel from far away as Germany, Canada, Oklahoma, Florida and many other states.
On Saturday, we met two long-time riders who are from Manitoba, Canada and Orlando, Florida.
During the annual festival, they also give back to the community by donating to the Laurel Police Department, Laurel Fire Department and the park system in Laurel every year.
