Lawrenceburg student wins school spelling bee for fourth year in a row

Has won every year since first grade

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – The spelling talents of a local fourth grader is nothing to rebuke.

Nyla McAlister correctly spelled “R-e-b-u-k-e” to win Lawrenceburg Community School’s fourth grade spelling bee on Friday.

It marks the fourth consecutive year that McAlister has taken home the spelling bee trophy.

“Today’s contest wasn’t as long as it was in second grade, I think this might have been the shortest,” she said.

Back in second grade, Nyla and another student battled 18 minutes in the final round before she won that year's spelling bee.

McAlister says one secret to her success is that she studies often with her mom.

The family celebrated the spelling bee victory by going to the restaurant of Nyla’s choice on Friday night.

For her parents, April and Ryan, the restaurant Nyla chose is one they just couldn’t rebuke.
